During that extravehicular activity (EVA), a carbon dioxide sensor on Menon's spacesuit gave \"an unexpected data reading,\" NASA officials wrote in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/blogs\/spacestation\/2026\/08\/07\/space-station-crew-wraps-busy-week-plans-new-date-for-us-spacewalk-97\/\" ><u>Aug. 7 update<\/u><\/a>. <\/p><p>The sensor returned to normal after Menon doffed the suit, but NASA took some extra time to make sure there was no serious issue. As a result, the agency pushed his second spacewalk back a few days \u2014 from the originally planned Aug. 13 to today.<\/p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/content.jwplatform.com\/players\/cjX0NS2R.html\" id=\"cjX0NS2R\" title=\"Blastoff! Russia launches NASA astronaut and 2 cosmonauts to ISS\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"auto\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><p>Today's spacewalk will be the 282nd overall in the long history of the ISS. Menon, who reached orbit on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft <a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/soyuz-ms-29-astronaut-launch-international-space-station-anil-menon\"><u>on July 14<\/u><\/a>, will be \"crewmember 1\" on the EVA. Adenot \u2014 a member of SpaceX's <a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/international-space-station\/who-are-the-astronauts-of-spacexs-crew-12-mission-to-the-iss\"><u>Crew-12 mission<\/u><\/a>, which reached the orbiting lab in February \u2014 will be \"crewmember 2.\"<\/p><p>Adenot won't be the first French person overall to conduct an EVA. That distinction goes to Jean-Loup Chr\u00e9tien, who performed a spacewalk outside the then-Soviet Union's <a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/31999-mir-space-station-30th-anniversary.html\"><u>Mir space station<\/u><\/a> in 1988. <\/p><p>Other male French astronauts, including Philippe Perrin and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/astronaut-thomas-pesquet-biography\"><u>Thomas Pesquet<\/u><\/a>, later spacewalked outside the ISS.
